Flash Fiction

“Wow! You are really looking gorgeous today.”

“What do you mean ‘today’?”

“I mean you are looking exceptionally beautiful today. More than your usual best. Which is quite exceptional too, in its own way.”

She smiled, “Look at you all so nervous.”

He ignored her remark and continued, “Um. So what would you have to drink?”

“Aha! Planning to get me drunk straight away? You’re having high hopes of getting it tonight don’t you?”

“What?”

“Oh, come on. We both know where this is going?”

“I know where this going, but it doesn’t mean you have to just throw it out there in the open, like that.”

“Well whats the use of beating around the bush?”

” ‘Beating around the bush’? That’s what you think this is? I’m trying to have a nice conversation and enjoy the evening with you.”

“But we always enjoy each others company. Why do the pretending, fancy restaurant, getting dressed up and all that stuff?”

“Because all that stuff is what called romance.”

“Ooooh! Signor Casanova seducing me with his charm”

“Look, we both agreed to give this a try. We’ve been friends for what, 14 years?”

“And still you can’t tell when am pulling your leg just for the fun of it?”

He blushed through a smile. “But you are right. This does feel awkward. Pretending and all.

I love you just the way you are.

In your shabby hair, torn floaters and your awful dressing sense.”

“You think MY dressing sense is awful?”

“You wore a WHITE t-shirt to a Metallica concert!”

“Once, Okay! That was long time back. Stuff happens.”

“So what do we do now?”

“Well doing it tonight is still on the table. Just so you know.” She twinkled.

“I’m in.”

Oh God! Do you really have a fascination towards unnatural death? well, not this post I was going through the others as well… But you`ve indeed expressed everything very succinctly. Well done Dude :)
And this one, well… is this to be continued? I`d love that :)

    Diya,

Welcome here! I would be most delighted to have another reader. :D

As a matter of fact, I do have quite a fascination about unnatural death. I would be highly disappointed if I died of natural causes. :)

And since I am a fan of murder mysteries and serial killer stories, etc. I guess it shows in someway or the other in writing.

Not having any plans as such on continuing this one, but you'll find similar characters in other stories like Some Magic and Flashpoint too.

The only series that going on is of 'Nick & Jenny' because of its treasured readership. :D

Am glad you plan to stick around.
    Thanks for visiting.

Hey, I’ve only been gone 10 days and come back to find you have a new (cool) name, a new (fabulous) template (really love it) and loads of new posts for me to catch up on!! You’ve been busy!! :)

“Love Actually” is wonderful – not only the movie (one of my fav), but your piece here. Such great dialogue, so authentic. You can feel the true love between the two with every sentence.

Loved it…and love your new blog…and love being one of your dearest Aunts! :-D

  8. Aniket says:

    Margaret,

Me so happie to so you back!

Am glad you liked the new template and that you noticed being one of the fav. aunts. :D (No one else seemed to notice *sob sob*)

And “Love Actually” is one of my all time fav. too :P

Take your own time in catching up to the posts. There aren’t that many. :)

  9. Vesper says:

Sweet piece, Aniquez, and I liked the dialogue! Such is life, isn’t it? In the end what matters is what stays true when all masks fall…

  10. Aniket says:

    Vesper,

You have summarised it ever so beautifuly in that scentence what all I wanted to convey.

All that matters is what lies behind the mask.

Thank you for taking time to read all of them. You’ve made my day.

  11. emptygarden says:

That was beautiful. New love amoung old friends! Thank you so much for visiting me, and letting me get to know you!….jorc

  12. Sarah Hina says:

This may be my favorite dialogue post of yours, Aniket (and I’m sorry–again!–for being so absent lately; I’ve been crunching on that new novel). I really liked the slight tension between the desire for romance and the desire for truth. With the right person, both can be possible, no matter how long you’ve known her. This conversation certainly felt flirty and romantic to me, but also real.

Gotta love that last line again…

    ;)

  13. Aniket says:

    Jorc,

    The feeling is mutual. :D
I am glad you came by and that you liked the post.

Look forward to seeing more of you. :)

  14. Aniket says:

    Sarah,

    I know… I know! :D

I’ve been reading your older posts again. Had left comments too. But I doubt you’ve got mail alerts on them.

Am very happy that you liked it.
I do realize I am at my best when writing romantic posts. Irony of life. :D :D

Take your time. You are managing quite well. No complaints.

  15. CoFfEe AnGeL says:

Aniket this is v.sweet :o ) V.romantic. Eternal romantics eventually do get a blissful love life so dont despair !

  16. Aniket says:

    Coffee Angel,

Am counting on it BIGGG time. :)

  17. Shruti says:

    well deserved name!!
just like the movie, the post was also awesome.
    mischievous yet romantic love story…
    very sweet!!

  18. Rach says:

    u put it wonderfully well!

really, where do u get the inspiration to write such stuff yaa?

    • Aniket Thakkar says:

      Thanks a lot!

And Good question :D Mostly from watching people around. Some inspired from my own life or people close by. And then there are the countless movies I’ve seen to draw inspiration from.
There have been many posts on inspiration, some find it in music, some in art/pictures. In the end, I believe its whatever moves you.

Its like the ending of the movie Love Actually stuck with me “Love Actually is – all around”. Inspiration to is all around us. Stick around long enough and I might just write something on you. (Just kiddin’) :)
