“Hey!” She nudged him with her elbow.
“Hmm”
“The sky looks so big!”
He didn’t bother to lift his cap that covered his face, “That probably has something to do with the fact that it IS big.”
“Why do you guys have to put logic into everything and spoil it all?”
“May be because we are smart and know all the answers.”
“Well, your report card is a living proof that you don’t”
“First of all, it ain’t living. Second, stop talking about studies here, will you. See, this is why I don’t hang out with you anymore.”
“Yeah. Yeah. I know how you guys transform when you get older” She picked up a twig and twisted it.
She mumbled, “It was quite cool of you to punch that guy at school today.”
“He asked for it.”
“I know, but I’m glad you stood up for me.”
“Hey Jen. No matter how old we get. I’ve always got your back.
You know that, right?”
“I know Nick. I know that I can always count on my baby brother.”
“Now who are you calling a Baby?” He took off his cap and turned.
She rubbed her hand over his head, “No one, kiddo. No one.”

Good one mate…Happy Rakshabandhan!
Thanks a lot and same to you!
“She rubbed her hand over his head, “No one, kiddo. No one.”"
Says it all. Isn’t that what big sisters are about?
The best Rakshabandhan post, ever! Love to Nick and Jenny!
Thy lady is generous as ever! Thanks a ton.
I missed my sisters a lot yesterday.

Thank you! Hey, am shifting to Mumbai in a couple of weeks.
that was a cute one, made me smile
Am so glad it did Lena.
you better write more things like that, you are becoming a profi in them
I’ll try my best.
I miss the real Jen.
Another wonderful take on their relationship, Aniket. I liked the tenderness with this one, amidst the usual give and take. It IS difficult to show love and appreciation to a sibling. This vignette offers just the right feeling for how that would play out.
Those last two lines really gave me a smile and put some warmth in my heart.
And the title says it all! Very nicely done.
I so miss her too. She always comments on ‘Nick and Jenny’ posts. I hope she finds her way here too.
Yup. We’ll never openly thank each other for being there. Not without a tease. Its our job as siblings, right?
Ha! It’s like my ears were burning.
For what it’s worth, I have totally missed you guys, too. You have no idea how awesome it was to make the rounds today.
Aniket, I love this one. You are getting the subtle details down so well, the action between the dialogue, the little things that give these characters their personalities, that lift them off the page for the reader. I feel like I know them.
Of course, in the next one, I expect a return to war.
This post was a sort of dedication to the festival of Rakhshabandhan, out here. When brothers pledge to protect their sisters and always keep them happy.
Next time, the war would be back on.
Sarah taught me that action between the dialogue part. Of course am still learning.
Okay, wtf is that avitar assigned to me????
Your new site is going to take some getting used to!
This is what happens when you don’t have a gravatar profile set up (it hardly takes 5 min) or don’t have an open id. Also, you’d be required to use your mail id for Gravatar login.
See wordpress is much more safer and traceable. I can set up a site for you if you ever want it.
To me, its money worth spent.
A nice slice of life. In slow transition.
Thank you Jason.
But why, oh why, does mine look so…mad???
It tends to bring out ones true form. lol
The tenderness between them stands out in this one Aniket. It’s lovely to see it’s there even though they don’t want to show it!
Happy belated Rakshabandhan.
Sorry for being late in reading this but we’ve got visitors for 2 weeks. So, I’m kept pretty busy, but I still don’t wanna miss out on any posts.
They’ll always have each others back. No matter waht.
No worries for being late. Everyone seems to be taking it slow these days.
Its good to see we all have a life to go back to too, you know.
So take your time and enjoy. Am going to visit my bro. over the weekend. We have big plans.
