Flash Fiction

"A friend is someone who’s there when he needs you" – Author Unknown

“Frank! Stop” Jim slammed his hands on the car “Am glad, I caught you in time.”

“Jim? Are you out of your fucking mind? Jumping in front of my car like that!”

“Am sorry man! I need your help. Big time.”

“You better not do that again, ever. You fuckin’ hear me?”

“I said I’m sorry. Come on, let me in”

“What trouble you’ve got yourself into this time?”

“Its more of a who than a what.”

“Look Jim. I haven’t got all day, okay. Spill it out.”

“Here’s the deal Frank. I’m in love with Alex”

“Jesus, Jim! I always feared you’ll turn the other way someday.”

“What? No Frank! Come on. Ew. Hell no, man. Alex as in Alexandra”

Frank breathed a sigh of relief. “So who is this Alexandra?”

“She is the new girl in my French class and am so in love with her.”

“But you joined the French class only yesterday, right?”

“Yes, I did and am going out with her today.”

“Look Jimmy. If you want my car, I ain’t giving it to you.

The last time you took it, you brought it back smelling like uncle McDonald’s kitchen.

I spent half a day cleaning it up after you. Also, these things never last man.

You love every girl you meet. You’ll go on a date with her, say something gross and would be back crying by midnight.

I’ll not be a part of it in anyway, so don’t try to convince me. Okay?”

“You done, Frank? I ask you for help and you throw all that bullshit at me.

I’m leaving. It’s a shame Svetlana will have to find someone else.”

“What? Svetlana. Who is Svetlana?”

“She’s Alex’s roommie. I fixed up a double date for us, man.

But you just broke the deal with me.”

“Hey. Come on Jimmy. Was just kidding back there, old bean.

We are brothers. The car is yours. Take it bro.”

Jim grinned and snatched the keys, “Move over. I’m driving.”

    Ooo, I like the twist!!

Hey, I was just coming over to check up on you, when what do you know?! A new post. :)

I love the quote and how you showed the truth in it here. Especially at that age, when the hormones are raging (well, okay, that doesn’t change so much). ;) I have a feeling these guys are pretty straight shooters with one another. As a woman, that’s interesting to me. I think girls, and maybe women, too, tend to tell each other more of what they want to hear.

A very cool idea, Aniket! I hope they enjoy their date. :D

(how is the studying going, btw?)

    • Guys are almost always straight shooters. Thank devil for that!

Its a bliss to be among the collage mates. Life seems much simpler around them. No hassles.
And yup, somethings don’t change much with age. :D

You had to ask about studies didn’t you? You are starting to remind me a lot of my Mom these days. :D
Its going on…not at the pace that is required but once I move to new place next week, I’m hopeful things would get better.

I saw 4 episodes of The Wire. Its pretty cool. Its charm lies in the detailing of how they approach the case.
      I’m liking it. :)

Loved it…the end was sooo cuteee!!!!

  4. Kriti says:

Hee hee! That’s one story anyone would connect to! :-)

it was nice, not one of your best but a good read. the dialogue seemed artificial to me at some points, but then thats maybe the way guys talk when they are alone, who knows? :D
    Still well done, Aniket :)

  6. Karen says:

Boys will be boys…and then they grow up to be…older boys! Love the give and take between them.

I need to put this on my blogroll; I still have Melody of Dissonance!

When’s the move? Is it a job change, too?

    • I know! No one comes over here unless I hurl them over from Melody… :P

I’m moving tomm. Its not a job change. Just got a different project and its headed by a different office.
Its a good change though. Would be staying with my brother from now on. :)

  7. Karen says:

Hey, Ani, you have to change my avatar. I mean, c’mon! Me?

  8. On behalf of Catvibe (May she spare my poor site of her wrath on account of its hostile behavior towards her. My poor site doesn’t realize with whom it is dealing with. Mercy madamme):

“Aniket, your blog isn’t allowing me to post my comment, saying I’m not a member of my own blog. Not sure why, but trying again anyway to see if this time I get lucky. In any case, loved the ending, it was really sweet. I said better things in my last attempt. :-( Arghhhh!”

    • Thank you Catherine for the lovely comment and the repeated attempts. You could probably just give it a try without adding your website’s name. No clue why such a thing is happening. And too much going on life for me to dig deeper. :)

Hopefully it’ll come to its senses on its own. :D

  9. Catherine Vibert says:

Testing testing, let’s see if leaving the website off works. :-)

  10. Yeah – Boys will be boys! You’ve brought that over really well in this dialogue Aniket. I loved the twist at the end. It was unexpected until I read the name Svetlana – then I thought “aah” and knew what was coming :)

Cat – I had the same problem when I posted my first comment until I realized it was because I forgot to put in a dot in my website!

    • I know you are reading my stuff even if you don’t comment Margaret. I know I can count on you. :D

And you can comment without an email or a website now too. – Courtesy Jennifer’s shouts :D

  11. Forgot to ask you about your hands Aniket! What happened to them??? I hope it’s nothing serious and that you fully recover – take care. :)

  12. Yup. A lot better. Commented on all the blogs today. :P

Thanks for checking up on me. :)
