I believe

‘What are you doing?’

‘What do you think I am doing?’

‘Wasting your time building a plane, thats never going to fly?’

‘Tch. Tch. Wrong answer. You should give up any dreams you might have of going to Who wants to be a millionare? You’ll just embarass yourself.’

‘Very funny. Shouldn’t you be doing your homework?’

‘Shoulda… woulda… coulda. Its a tricky road to travel. Oh and it goes both ways. You see, you shouldn’t be talking to your boyfriend past 9 either. Think of that, before you run to mom.’

‘I was not going to run to mom. I’m not a tattletale.’

‘Yeah, right. And I’m not human.’

‘Have it your way. Besides, even if I told mom, she’d be happy that you are creating something rather than breaking it.’

‘Interesting. I can see how that beats your purpose.’

‘So why are you making this anyway?’

‘Because I’m a guy.’

‘And?’

‘And guys love fast things. Bikes, cars, air-planes…you name it.’

‘This is not going to be fast. In fact its not going anywhere. Fall it might. Fly it will not.’

‘I know that.’

‘And you’re still going to build it?’

‘Sometimes one need not see something to believe. It may not be the thing. But it represents something great. It may not fly, but I would want to believe it can.’

‘That doesn’t make any sense.’

‘It makes perfect sense. Just like you keep making those futile attempts to irritate me and never show it, but I know how much you love me.’

‘I…I…uh… you’re a moron.’

‘Where are you going? I have tissues here!’

‘You’re a sleeze Nick.’

‘Love you too Jenny.’

Ever since I took the red pill, life's been an ongoing mission to find out how deep this rabbit hole goes. I'm mostly harmless, unless... arrgh... unless you do THAT!

    Hope you are well!!

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!! I am great and have missed you so much!
You always find your way to these… always. And it means so much. Thank you.

How are your in-laws? Any new anole stories? How are you? You should really pop up more often you know.

  • Ric

That is exactly how it is. Autobiographical?

    • http://foolishnessofthings.blogspot.com Aniket

Sadly no. I don’t have a sister. Its just me and my older brother.
I had a Nick and Jenny series going on over my personal blog. I still keep writing about them as I love those characters.

In fact they were named after me and a wonderful blogger friend of mine Jennifer (who I used to have loadsa friendly fights with).
Yes, she’s the same one who commented on this post, that’s why I’m saying all the nice things. ;)

Hi yourself! This was a HUGE coincidence–I took the entire summer off from writing and reading blogs, etc. and the day I checked back, of course, there is a Nick and Jenny piece! :) They are so darned cute, aren’t they?? ;)

No new anoles, one surviving gecko, in-laws are the same. The kids went back to school a couple of weeks ago and just this week I started revising the draft of the novel I finished right before summer vacation. It’s either that or go back to the whole lawyer thing..so for now, we write!

How is your job? Your writing? The Future Mrs. Aniket?? (My husband is asking if I want to spend a couple of years in India-his firm wants to expand there–so maybe I really will be able to attend your wedding. ;) )

Good to “talk” to you, Aniket. We still need to do a book chat for Plum Blossoms with everyone. :)

I’m planning to switch jobs. So little troubles in paradise there. I too realized that I’ll always be torn between coding and writing, as I love both. And since, coding is going to be the only source of my bread and butter for quite some time, so I need to pay more attention to it right now in my career. Hence, writing has taken a back seat for now. Two posts a month is all I write. If I find time I still post on my old blog. Haven’t been reading other blogs much lately too. I probably need a couple of months off to sort things out. No progress on the Future Mrs. Aniket yet. Where does one find single girls? They get booked as early as school these days! Its a tough world out there.

I’m glad you’ve finished your novel. Do remember me, once you’ve turned a bestselling author. ;) And I’m thrilled about the prospect that you might be coming to India. I might just marry for that reason. :D

We should organize a book chat for PBIP. Sarah was nice enough to give me the exclusive what happens next after the book excerpt too. What can I say, I love to brag. :D
Good to ‘talk’ to you too. Still miss the rants.

these peppery exchanges between nick and jenny never get old. (the stories, i mean. not that the real you and jenny ever get old either.)

and i love how you aways get at something real through the lightheartedness of them. the power of beleif, the little things we do that don’t look like much on the outside but come from a deep and wonderful place inside. humor with soul is the best, and you do it so, so well.

    • http://foolishnessofthings.blogspot.com Aniket

Yes, its somehow easier for me to write about them too. Probably thats why I seek refuge in them, whenever I get stuck for ideas.
And you’ve been a constant reader for most of their (I think all) adventures. So they love you right back. ;)

  • Sanyam

    So very realistic!!!

    • http://foolishnessofthings.blogspot.com Aniket

Thanks man. I’m glad you liked it.

  • http://myintuitivemind.blogspot.com/ Manasi

    This is nice and warm!
I liked the sarcasm and poignancy of the piece a lot!
You have this thing for flash fiction and I appreciate it everytime I read it :)

    ~Cheers,

And I appreciate each time you read and comment on one of my stories. Can’t thank you enough.
      Thank you so very much!

This was really lovely, Aniket. I love all dialogue pieces, but I love Nick and Jenny even more. This might just be my favorite of the series. I like how immersed he is in his task, yet how he’s still into jousting with her, too. There’s a great embrace of the lofty and the everyday in this piece, and best of all, it feels completely natural and authentic. Like I was just a fly on the wall, listening in.

Plus, Because I’m a guy. is one of my favorite lines of yours….ever. :)

    • http://foolishnessofthings.blogspot.com Aniket

I’m glad you think this is an improvement over others. I was afraid that I was losing IT.

Reading Nick and Jenny pieces back make me feel good about myself. So they feel special to me. I’m glad others shower their love on them too. :)

P.S. : I hate you for planting “Jeez Louise” as an ear worm. I just keep saying it every chance I get!
