Memories

Welcome sign

with bullet-holes

To-Do lists

with missed-out goals

Old bi-cycle

with rusty wheels

My brother’s tie

that I did steal

Mom’s home cooked

food-cuisines

Stack of playboy

magazines

Secrets kept

That goodbye kiss

Son’s first steps

that I did miss

My precious watch

that grandpa gave

My precious stash

those pennies saved

Things I got

Things I bought

Things I lost

and then forgot

They’re all here

In front of me

Forgotten bits

Of precious me.

Ever since I took the red pill, life's been an ongoing mission to find out how deep this rabbit hole goes. I'm mostly harmless, unless... arrgh... unless you do THAT!

ANIKET!! I’m yelling your name in elation! This is wonderful! I think you’ve been soaking in all of the good things you read until you’ve come to realize that poetry lets you say it best! Okay. Just my bias showing, but I absolutely love this and hope to see you writing more poetry!

Now for the poem – wonderful details, but those last two stanzas really grab me. Seems we spend out lives getting and spending and then forgetting.

Actually when I complained to Joaquin about not being as talented with rhymes as he is, he was most kind to write me a detailed mail about how he approaches poetry.
It is a lovely breakup with a few cool tricks that has helped me immensely. I wrote ‘Yertle the turtle’ immediately after I got that mail to practice and was elated to read good comments about it.
And I am super glad that you liked this one too. I’d love it if I someday become half as good a poet as he is.

Now that I’m loving what I’m writing when it comes to poetry, I’ll surely be writing much more of it. Thanks for the pat in the back. It means so much when it comes from someone as good as you.

Ah! Memories.. tricky things those. :)

One thing I absolutely adore is the fact that your poems almost always rhyme! And it’s so much fun reading them out aloud in a sing song voice!

This one reminded me of that Rock On song… Pichhle saat dino mein maine…

How did I miss replying on this?

Hmm… now that you’ve mentioned it. It does kinda resonates with that song. But since I love that song, I’ll take it as a pat on the back. And the only reason I write poetry that rhymes is – I don’t know how to write one that doesn’t. :D I’ll figure it out some day.

I want to second Karen’s enthusiasm! I can see Joaquin’s influence here, and really, who better to look to (well, okay, Karen, too :) )? This had a wonderful rhythm and flow, and the added punch of a last stanza zinger to the heart.

We’re all riddled with bullet holes–some shot at us, some of our own hand. Funny how often we feel the absences more than the presence. The line between forgetting and trying not to remember is a tricky one.

Really loved how you pieced this together, Aniket. And even more, that you’re enjoying this approach and finding your voice. I can’t wait to see what you come up with next!

Yeah, Karen and Kaye are on whole another level. When they discuss poetry with each other, all I can do is stare and admire.
I like to set achievable targets. :D Like they show in toy story, I wonder with so many other things too.

Things that I used to treasure at one time, and when I forgot about them, I don’t know where they disappeared.
No matter, how hard I look now, I can’t seem to find them.

i know you can’t see me, but i’m dancing. ok, i’m dancing in my head, but still.

awesome, awesome, awesome. the last comment you left me – about how you are enjoying writing poetry now – made me happy. now i see why – i’d enjoy writing something like this too. :) i love the details, and that there is room to imagine in the details – and the last two stanzas bring it home and lay it out in such a real and human way. this poem has soul, and heart, and that’s something you can’t learn from someone else. that part is 100% aniket.

This is very powerful n heavy…
Opening and Closing lines were a sucker punch…
Why did you ever think you couldn’t rhyme, I wonder!:)

I always knew that there is much more to poetry than just rhyming the last words of every line. But I couldn’t figure out how to get that – extra thing required. Its only recent, that I’ve received guidance to get that bit. ;)

Thank you so much for reading and commenting.
