Night of the Dammed

It was three days after the message had arrived in the Arie that a squad of knights arrived to investigate the strange happenings in Burnside and what they found in the small hamlet shocked them to their very cores. They arrived with the setting sun and found the town wrapped in an uneasy silence, nothing but shadows moved in their flickering torch light and there was no sound to be heard but the ring of their horse shoes on the cobblestones and their own heavy breaths.
Once in the town the knights spread out to better investigate the strange silence but it wasn’t an hour before a shout of terror pierced the bleak silence and Captain Keldorn could be heard shouting to his fellows “Knights to me, To Me!”.

With all the urgency of trained warriors the knights turned and galloped back to the center of town to aid their captain. Only Keldorn was not there, and after some time the knights came to the grim realization that he was not coming back. They decided to hold out there in the center of town until the morning and they would avenge Keldorns brave soul with the first blessed rays of sunlight.

If only it had been that easy.

Through out the night the brave knights were under assault by vile undead creatures. They would skulk at the edges of the light for hours only coming close en-mass and brutally tearing at the poor knights’ flesh with blackened claws before retreating back into the black night. It was after the forth such attack that the knights noticed one of their number was simply gone, Brandon had disappeared into the blackness. Soon Gelik joined him, then Forad and Dellen… until only two brave knights remained to fight the terrors of the night, and fight they did. They fought with the fury of men who had nothing left to lose, they stood testament to the bravery and skill of the Knights of the Sun. They were shining beacons in the cold night and when the first rays of morning pierced the sky they rejoiced at their victory.

Those two victorious knights knew they could not survive another night in this hellish place and resolved to return to the Arie and come back with an army to cleanse the bloody soil of this horrid town. But as they prepared to leave they heard a cry from one of the buildings “Help me, please, please help me” screamed the young voice of an innocent child from inside. In a flash both men charged inside to find a girl hiding behind a bed with tears in her eyes “Oh please help me, please” she cried “They took everyone”.

“Don’t worry young one”, they replied “Your safe now, at least someone survived.”
